Intersoft Application Maintenance

Intersoft Application maintenance process is so designed that it recurrently prompts the organization to leverage their Information Technology (IT). Providing services as well as maintenance to an existing support and expansion/extension of a system once it has been deployed to users/customers is one amongst our key tasks. We look at maintenance from three different perspectives:

  • The activities required to conduct the maintenance phase and the effect of a software engineering approach (or lack thereof) on the usefulness of such activities
  • The price associated with the maintenance phase
  • The complications and issues that generally come across, when software maintenance is being handled

Why Business needs it?

  • Strengthening the capability of the system to provide a service
  • Monitoring the system’s potential to deliver services
  • Creating reports of problems for analysis
  • Take corrective, adaptive, perfective and preventive actions
  • Assured restored capability

MAINTENANCE PROJECT LIFECYCLE:

1.0 Overview and Scope

2.0 Intersoft Maintenance Life Cycle

2.1 Project Assessment
The approach followed by Intersoft for project assessment is well defined and systematic. The formulation of the project assessment process is a result of logical thinking earned via learning from its vast experience in the field of Information Technology. The assessment is handled independently by a skilled person best suited for the scope and subject matter of the project. Intersoft adopts a technique for project assessment which covers a wide horizon. This includes all the processes an organization follows, a selected subset of the software processes, or a specific project. Generally one defines the target unit of analysis and rating at the organization level, for most of the process assessments that are based on the maturity (CMM or SPR) concept.

2.2 Project Planning
For development and delivery of a successful project, there are some key areas which Intersoft takes into account while initiating a project:

  • Defining the scope of the project to be developed
  • Defining the goals for the project under maintenance
  • Identifying the project deliverables
  • Creating a proper timed agenda for project maintenance
  • Creating support plans

2.3 Project Transition
Intersoft key considerations:

  • The major tasks in the Transition phase include parallel running of old and new systems, data migration, training the users for the new system, and adjusting business processes.
  • Intersoft follows “Agile” methodology in the Transition phase, varying the number of iterations according to the task. For a simple system requiring primarily minor bug fixing only single iteration is required. However, for a complex system, involving addition of features and performing activities to make the business transition from using the old system to using the new system a number of iterations are required.
  • When the targets of the Transition phase are attained the project can be closed. For some of the products, ending of the current project lifecycle may coincide with the beginning of the next lifecycle, leading to the next generation of the same Application.

2.4 Handling change/enhancement requests
Following procedures must be developed and implement in the Maintenance process.

2.5 Acceptance Testing and Signoff
Acceptance Tests include formal tests conducted to determine whether or not a system satisfies its acceptance criteria and to enable the customer to determine whether or not to accept the system. Acceptance Tests don’t just include functional requirements; they also test the non-functional stuff like performance, security, and usability. Intersoft creates an “Operational Scenarios Document” (OSD) document during the Acceptance testing phase. This OSD document contains all the requirements gathered from the customer, the user stories and the use cases of the system to be built. Once this document is prepared it is presented to the customer for sign off.

Most importantly, Acceptance Tests are based on understanding the requirements specified by the customer with the help of supporting documents and artifacts supplied. Intersoft believes that development of a system which meets the Acceptance Tests will produce a successful project.

2.6 Regular Feedback - Monitoring of Customer Satisfaction
Intersoft aims at having an advanced understanding of the requirements and expectations of the customer, being aware of the performance of the current system, and recognizing the feasibility of the future application to be incorporated into the future releases.
